Who We Serve and What We Do

Frank Broadhead has been teaching Tai Chi for 24 years. He has been volunteering his services at the Ukiah Senior Center for the last 14 years. The class ranges from four to fifteen students.

Tai Chi is a centuries-old Chinese practice that strives to promote health through integrating the mind, body and spirit. The technique is beneficial for virtually everything, including lowering blood pressure, improving the immune system, and relieving arthritis. It is a low-impact exercise system that integrates movement with breath.

Carol Martinez, who has attended Frank’s class since the start, has seen the benefits first hand. She said, “I have been a dance instructor for 60 years. I noticed that my knees were starting to go out. I took up Tai Chi and learned to move more from my hips and thus alleviating the pain in my knees. Learning this technique has enabled me to continue dancing for years longer. I even taught Frank how to tap dance in trade!”
